We are currently working towards getting our 8th Green Flag for Global Citizenship-Marine Environment. This is our second year working on this theme and we hope to apply for our 8th flag next March. This theme gives schools the chance to work on the Green- Schools Programme to positively influence environments worldwide, with a focus on work on local lakes, rivers, oceans and seas.
Due to our proximity to the sea and our school being located in an inland county, we focused on our local rivers and lakes and the effects that pollution has on these waters.
Walk to School Week 7th-11th of October 2024
We held a WOW Day on Wednesday 9th October. Our Green Schools Committee investigated the amount of CO2 that could be saved by walking short distances in the mornings, when coming to school.
Did you know that you can save 6 balloons of CO2 by walking 500 meters instead of using the car?

On WOW Day we saved 134 balloons of CO2 in total.

We have also been selected as one of the five winners in this year's Walk to School Week Draw, receiving a prize of €100!

Local Water Pollution Investigation
On the 14th of November Mrs Burke, Ms Bushell, Liam, Charlie and I went visiting our local lakes where we  took samples of their water. We first visited Drinaun lake. Our first opinion was that  the water was very clear. The second lake we visited  was Kilglass Lake .This was Ms Bushells local lake. We  taught it was a bit dirty in comparison to Drinaun . The  final lake we visited was Cloonfin Lough. It was more or  less the same to Drinaun or so we thought . After that we went back to school and gathered the  rest of the committee .They helped us to investigate  the samples. To our surprise, Cloonfin Lough was the purest Lake, Drinaun was second and Killglass Lake finished last as  we predicted. Our Green schools Lake investigation was  very interesting and we all learned a lot.
