Welcome to the Active School Flag (ASF) section of our website. The Active School Flag is awarded to schools who strive to achieve a physically educated and physically active school community. One of it's aims is to raise awareness, in the whole school community, of the need for physical activity in a healthy lifestyle. We are engaging in the active school process this year and hope to obtain our first Active Schools Flag. We have established our ASF team with our co-ordinator Ms. Creavin.
Our Active School Motto is:
'Don't go too fast, Don't go too slow, St Patrick's B.N.S is ready to go'
Physical Education
In accordance with our school PE plan, every class in our school receives at least 1 hour of physical education each week. Teachers use the primary school PE curriculum as well as the PSSI lessons plans to plan their lessons. We complete each of the following strands every year;
1. Games,
2. Dance,
3. Athletics,
4. Gymnastics,
5. Outdoor and Adventure
6. Aquatics.

Physical Activity
Our School provides lots of equipment for the children to use during break and lunch time as part of our Active Schools programme. Basketballs, Footballs, Tennis Rackets, Hockey sticks, Skipping Ropes and beanbags are just some of the equipment the children can use during break times. The Playground leaders monitor equipment.
Active Lines
When lining up in our pods outside we insure that we are staying active in our lines. The playground leaders use our circuits resources to ensure each pod is maximising their level of activity.
The Daily Mile
All the classes in our school complete the daily mile regularly. This has proved to be a great start to the day and the children really enjoy it.
Partnerships
ASF committee
Our Active school committee consists of children from every class in our school. They have worked really hard as playground leaders and have got involved in many active school meetings during this school year.
School/Community Links
Our school has forged many links with the local community. Many of the children are involved in the local GAA, Soccer and Golf Clubs.
We have worked with Connaught GAA this year and our school is engaging in their online skills programme every Friday live at 10am. Local Fitness instructors have also organised Activities for Active schools Week.

Active Schools Week
We held our Active Schools week from April 26th- April 30th. We really enjoyed it and completed lots of fun activities. We had an Active Schools week timetable and various activities were organised for each day. We also only assigned Active Homework that week instead of written tasks to ensure the children were being active at home. The teacher's also challenged the children to a penalty shoot out. Our local sports person Cathal Cregg assigned the whole school an active challenge on the last day of Active Schools week.
