Doing St. Patrick’s B.N.S Proud in Castlebar!
Well done Stephen!
On the 25th of May,2019 my family and I went to Castlebar for the Roscommon vs Mayo game. I was playing in the Cumann na mBunscol exhibition game before the big match. We went into the dressing rooms and were given our Rossie gear. When we were changed we walked around to the terrace. A few minutes later we ran onto the pitch, got into our positions and started playing. It was a good pitch to play on and I scored 4 points. After the match was over we shook hands and lined up each side of the tunnel to make a guard of honour for the players. I was surprised by how big some of the players were. We then got a photo and went back to our seats to watch the game. It was an exciting game and a brilliant win. I nope the Rossies beat Galway in the final.

On Tuesday the 20th of June 2017 we raised our fourth Green Flag for Travel. We were very fortunate to have Lisa McDaniel our travel officer to raise our flag. Lisa gave huge help to Miss Beirne and the Green Schools Committee over the past 2 years. Miss Beirne unfortunately was sick on this special day, but we must commend her on this fantastic achievement and all the hard work she did behind the scenes. We had the pleasure to welcome Valerie Beirne, Liam Callaghan, John Cummins and Joe Murphy from Roscommon Co. Council along with Suzanne Dempsey, Environmental Education Officer to our celebration. Thank you to all parents, grandparents and friends who attended and supported. We hope you enjoyed a cup of tea or coffee. Everyone enjoyed the celebrations, especially the boys who were treated to a cone from Nick's Ice-cream Van!

Guest Speaker Tony Curtis.
A wonderful poet named Tony Curtis came to our school on 27th of April. He was a humorous poet and we really enjoyed his visit. His poems and singing were very enjoyable. He told us about his own school life and why he became a poet. He spends his days travelling and writing poetry. He told us about a time when he had to sing a song outside King David's Tomb in Israel. He showed us some of his poetry books and we even got a chance to read from them! It was a fantastic experience to have a talented and renowned poet in our school.
The poetry festival is taking place this weekend in Strokestown. This is a fabulous opportunity for all ages to immerse themselves in the wonderful language of poems and stories. Best of luck to our very own poet Eoghan Flanagan who is competing in the Primary School Division Poetry Contest!

We won our first 4 games, beating Abbeycartron N.S, Croghan N.S and Roxboro N.S 1-0. We lost out to Abbey N.S Roscommon despite having the better chances. Thankfully we are now through to the next round along with Croghan N.S and Abbey N.S Roscommon. It was a great day and we really enjoyed it. Third and Fourth Class outing to Roscommon Castle.
On Thursday the 2nd of June 2016 3rd and 4th class boys went on a tour to see Roscommon Castle. We were studying Roscommon Castle in our History Class. We learned about the people who lived in Roscommon Castle and the structure of the castle. The Earl of Essex owns the stone in the building at the moment and the Molloy family own the land surrounding the castle. We learned lots of fascinating facts about the castle. We’d like to thank Frank Scott for a fantastic tour. After the tour we ate our lunch in Roscommon Park and we had some fun in the playground.
Cumann na mbunscol Semi Final!

Cumann na mbunscol Final Day!
Boys Top School Champions 2016!!!!!!
It was the 14th of June. Cumann na mBunscol Final day. Roxboro verses St. Patrick’s Strokestown. D DAY!
We started school as normal, coming in with a positive attitude. You could feel the excitement building. Nerves were beginning to appear but nobody would say it.
At two o'clock we went down to Miss Clancy's room. Miss Beirne and Ms Clancy gave us our jerseys and showed us our positions. We listened attentively to our tactics. 'All football is played in your head and never give up until the bitter end'. We weren't going to give up!
We left school with butterflies in our bellies. We knew what we had to do. We ate a small dinner and drank plenty of water. It was time to head to Ballyleague.
The weather was wet and miserable but it wasn't dampening our spirits. We stayed focused. Throw in was 5pm. Tom Killion was our referee.
From the start St. Patrick's David McDonnell caught the ball and gave a swift pass to Shane McGinley who kicked the ball straight between the posts. It was tough and the conditions were not ideal but at half time we were leading 0-6 to 0-1. We discussed at half time the need to stay focused and to start the second half like the first. And we did.
Straight away Evan Moran scored 2 points and a fantastic goal. We could see the finish line. Scores from Sean McDonnell, Oisín O'Beirne and Shane McGinley finished out a wonderful victory on a score line of 4-11 to 2-03. Roxboro shook our hands and congratulated us on a worthy victory. The relief was unreal. Our hard work had paid off. We had done it!
We were awarded the Top Schools shield by Cian Duffy who complemented our team work and discipline. Our captain Cian Kennedy made an excellent speech and thanked our teachers and Roxboro N.S.
It was on to Strokestown for the celebrations! We paraded the town with pride. Flying our flags and hooting our horns. We descended on the Percy French for our victory dinner. A perfect ending to a perfect day.
By Adam Tighe and Jack Beirne
It was a day of emotions and jubilation. A great achievement for a talented panel of boys who were a pleasure to mentor and a credit to their families and school.

On Monday 27th of June Thomas Corcoran presented medals to the victorious football team. It was a lovely afternoon celebrating a very productive year with parents, students and special guest. We would like to sincerely thank Thomas for coming to our school and making the boys feel very special.
